காட்டுக்குப் போனேனோ பெருமாளைப் போலே

கைகேயி, கேகய நாட்டு மன்னர் அஸ்வபதியின் மகளும், தசரத மன்னனின் மூன்று மனைவிகளுள் இளையவர் ஆவார். அழகும், வீரமும், விவேகமும் ஒரு சேர உருவான பெண். பரதன் இவருடைய மகன் ஆவார். ஸ்ரீராமனிடம் அதிக அளவு அன்பும் பாசமும் கொண்டவர்.

தசரத சக்ரவர்த்தி, ராமனுக்கு முடிசூட்ட எண்ணம் கொண்டு, மந்திரிகளுடனான ஆலோசனை முடிந்து ராமனுக்கு முடிசூட்ட நாளும் குறிக்கப்பட்டது. இராமனுக்கு முடிசூட்டு விழா என்று முரசு முழங்கியது. நாடே விழாக்கோலம் கொண்டு மக்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியில் குதூகலித்தனர். எல்லோரையும் விட இச்செய்தியால் அதிகம் மகிழ்ந்தவர் கைகேயி. பெருமிதம் கொண்டார்.

ஆனால், சிலந்தி வலையில் சிக்கிய சிறு பூச்சியைப் போல், மந்தரை என்றொரு கூனி வீசிய வலையில் சிக்கிய கைகேயியின் மனமும் குணமும் முற்றிலுமாக மாறியது.  ராமனுக்கு நாளை முடிசூட்டப் போகும் கனவில் மகிழ்ந்திருந்த அரசன் தசரதன் இரவு கைகேயியைக் காண வந்தார். அலங்கோலமாய் அமர்ந்திருந்த கைகேயியின் நிலை கண்டு பதறினான். “என்ன ஆயிற்று?”- என்று கேட்ட மன்னனிடம், “எனக்கு தாங்கள் இரு வரம் தருவதாய் முன்பு வாக்களித்தீர். இன்று அதை நான் கேட்கின்றேன். ஒன்று, ராமனுக்குப் பதிலாக என் மகன் பரதனுக்குப் பட்டம் சூட்ட வேண்டும். இரண்டு, 14 வருடங்கள் ராமன் காட்டுக்குச் செல்ல வேண்டும்.”- என்றும் தசரதனிடம் இரண்டு வரங்களைக் கேட்டாள் கைகேயி. 

கைகேயி தன் முடிவில் உறுதியாய் நின்றாள். தசரதன் கொடுத்த வாக்கை மீற முடியாமல் தவித்தான். இரவெல்லாம் மன்றாடியும், தசரதனால் கைகேயியின் மனதை மாற்ற இயலவில்லை. வேறு வழியின்றி வரத்தை வழங்கினார். தாயிடம் ஆசீர்வாதம் வாங்க வந்த ஸ்ரீ இராமன், தன் தந்தை மற்றும் தாயின் நிலை கண்டு பதறி, நடந்ததை வினவ, கைகேயியும் நடந்தவற்றைக் கூறினாள்.

ஆழ்ந்த மௌனத்திற்கு பின், சற்றும் பதறாமல், ஸ்ரீ இராமன் “சரியம்மா! தம்பி பரதன் நாடாளட்டும். நான் கானகம் புறப்படுகிறேன்.”-என்று கூறி, தாயிடமும் தந்தையிடமும் ஆசீர்வாதம் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு தன் அறைக்கு சென்றார்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “தந்தையின் வார்த்தைக்கு மதிப்பு கொடுத்து, மறுப்பேதும் கூறாமல், வார்த்தையில், செயலில், இதயத்தில் தெளிவு காட்டி, ஸ்ரீ இராமன் காட்டிற்கு சென்றாரே, அதுபோல் ஒரு தெளிவை பெருமாளிடம் நான் கொண்டுள்ளேனா?” –என்று வினவுகிறார்.

King Dasaratha of Ayodhya decided to coronate Rama as the king and he informed to everyone in the court and the news spread all over the kingdom and people started to celebrate the occasion they were waiting for. With the approval of the sages and ministers of the court, he sets the date to crown Sri Rama.

When the message of Rama’s coronation was passed to Kaikeyi, Kaikeyi was delighted and as happy as she would have been if it was her own son, Bharata's coronation. But due to the ill advice of Mantara, Kaikeyi had a change of heart and demanded two boons from Dasaratha. Fuelled with envy and jealousy as a result of Mantara’s words, she asked that her son Bharatha be crowned as the king instead of Rama and that Rama be sent to the forest for 14 years. Hearing this, Dasharatha fell into a swoon and passed the night in a pitiable condition in Kaikeyi's palace.

The night before the coronation ceremony, Rama performed a vratam along with Sita and prayed to Lord Ranganatha. When Rama came to the palace of Kaikeyi to seek her blessings, he saw his father and mother Kaikeyi sitting devastated. When Rama asked for the reason, she told Him about the two boons and that it was a royal decree that He go to the forest. King Dasaratha’s promise has to be kept and he has to grant the boons Kaikeyi asked! Rama immediately accepted it and with great pleasure prepared to go to the forest.

Thirukkolur Ammal is asking "Did I show steadiness in my heart and mind like Rama showed, in following His father's word and gave up the kingdom and go to the forest?"

இங்கு இல்லை என்றேனோ ததிபாண்டனைப் போலே

ஒருமுறை, என்றும் போல், வெண்ணை திருடி கண்ணன் மாட்டிக்கொள்ள, கோபியர்கள் துரத்தி வருகிறார்கள். கண்ணனும் அவன் நண்பர்களும் போக்கு காட்டி தெருக்களில் முத்துக்களாய் சிதறி ஓட, கண்ணன் ததிபாண்டனின் இல்லத்திற்குள் நுழைகிறான். ததிபாண்டன் ஆயர்பாடியில் தயிர்விற்கும் ஒரு இடையர்குலத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவன். ததிபாண்டனின் வீட்டில் பெரிய பெரிய தாழிகளில் தயிர் ஊற்றி வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும். காலையில் அனைத்தையும் விற்றுவிட்டு மாலையில் காலி பானைகளை அலம்பி வைத்திருப்பார். அப்படி ஒரு பெரிய காலியான தயிர் தாழிக்குள் கண்ணன் மறைந்து கொள்கிறான்.

இதனை ததிபாண்டன் பார்த்துவிடுகிறார். கிடைத்த வாய்ப்பை நழுவ விடலாமா? ததிபாண்டன் ஓடி சென்று அந்த தாழியை மூடி, அதன் மேல் அமர்ந்து கொள்கிறார். கண்ணனை எல்லா இடத்திலும் தேடி கலைத்த கோபியர்கள், ததிபாண்டனை நோக்கி “கண்ணன் இங்கே வந்தானா?”, என்கின்றனர். 

“இல்லையே!”- என்கிறார் ததிபாண்டன், சற்றும் யோசிக்காமல்.

கோபியர்கள் போனபின்பும் ததிபாண்டன் தாழியின் மேலிருந்து இறங்கவில்லை. உள்ளே கிருஷ்ணனுக்கு மூச்சு முட்டுகிறது. தனது புல்லாங்குழலால் தட் தட் என்ற பானை மூடியில் தட்டி மூடியை திறக்க சொல்லுகிறான்.

“உன்னை வெளியில் கொண்டுவர வேண்டுமென்றால் ஒரு நிபந்தனை. நீ எனக்கு மோட்சம் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்”- என்கிறார் ததிபாண்டன்.

“மோட்சம் கேட்கும் முறையா இது?? நான் ஏதோ ஆடு மாடு மேய்ப்பேன். குழலூதுவேன்.  வெண்ணை திருடி உண்பேன். வேறு எனக்கு என்ன தெரியும்?”- என்று ஸ்ரீகிருஷ்ணர் சிரிக்கிறார்.

“பூதனையை, சடகாசுரனை, கேசியை கொன்றவன் நீ. காளிங்க நர்த்தனம் ஆடியவன். கோவர்தனத்தைக் குடையாக பிடித்தவன். உன்னை நான் அறிவேன் கண்ணா ! மோட்சம் கொடுப்பேன் என்று உறுதியளித்தால் மட்டுமே வெளியில் விடுவேன்.”- என்கிறார் ததிபாண்டன் உறுதியாக.

கண்ணனை அறிதல் என்பது மிக முக்கியமல்லவா?

சிரித்த கண்ணன் உடனே நிஷ்டையில் ஆழ்ந்தான். வைகுந்தத்திலிருந்து தேரும் தேவரும் வந்தனர். ததிபாண்டனை மட்டுமல்ல கண்ணன் ஒளிந்த தாழியையும் சேர்த்து வைகுந்தம் கொண்டு போனார்கள். வைகுண்டம் போனால் இப்போதும் அந்தப் பானையையும் பார்க்கலாம் என்பது ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவர்களின் நம்பிக்கை.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “ததிபாண்டன் போல், எம்பெருமானின் நன்மைக்காக நான் போய் கூறினேனா?” -  என்று வினவுகிறார்.

One evening, while returning from their play time, Krishna, Balram and his friends, tired of their day’s play, decided to steal butter from the gopis who were seen churning butter in the morning.With an assurance that there’s no one in the house, everyone went inside the kitchen and started having the butter. Since there was no one in the house, everyone had fun and ate all the butter. In the meantime, the house owner returned and saw Krishna and Balram having fun with the kids. The Gopi started shouting in anger at them. “Krishna! I know it’s you who would have started this. I’m going to take you to your mother this time and make sure you get punished.”

Krishna, Balram and their friends started running towards the streets. They ran faster than the gopis. Krishna ran and entered into a house. The hall had large drums kept in the corner. Krishna checked every single drum. They were all filled with buttermilk. Finally he got inside the one that was empty. He hid himself from the gopis. It was Dhadhipanda’s house. “Dhadhipanda” means “one who has a large yogurt pot”. Every day, Dhadhipanda would take a large pot of yogurt and sell it. In the evening, he would come back with the empty pot and rest outside his home. Dhadhipanda is a seller of milk products especially buttermilk and butter. Dhandhipanda who was in the other room saw all this. Dhadhipanda is an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. He knew that Krishna is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Dhadhipanda came running and sat on the top of the drum as if like nothing happened. The gopis who came looking for Krishna saw Dhadhipanda and asked him, “Oh Dhadhipanda! Did you see that little thief Krishna? He came running this side. He stole butter in my house. That little thief ate all my butter.”

“Oh really! That’s so bad. I didn’t see him. I’m sitting here for a long time. I do not remember seeing him or any kid running this way.”- Dhadhipanda lied to the gopis in order to save Krishna.

“If you see him, get hold of him. Don’t let him run away. I’m going to present him in front of Yashoda and tell her about his stealing. Every time we complaint, he makes us look like fools in front of Yashoda.”-saying so the gopis left. But Dhandhipanda did not move. He sat on the drum’s top humming to himself.

Krishna who is inside the drum knew that the gopis left. He was waiting for Dhadhipanda to get up, but now it seemed like it’s not going to happen. He punched Dhandhipanda from inside-“Oi Gopa Dhandhipanda! How long are you planning to sit on the top? It’s suffocating inside. I’m not able to breathe. Get up.”

“Hey Krishna, you are struck in my hands now. If you want to get out of the pot, grant me my wish. Only then I will release you.”-Dhadhipanda was sitting firmly on the top of the drum.

“What is this? I tried to escape from the gopis and now struck with this guy. That too inside a drum! Oi Gopa! Is this the way to ask for a wish? That’s not fair. This is blackmail!”- Krishna shouted from inside.

“I know. But this is the only way to get hold of you. And also you are not that easy to be caught. While you are Krishna and also while you are the Lord himself. This is my only chance! Grant me Moksha. Get me out of this cycle of birth and rebirth and the worldly life. Agree to it and then I will let you free.”- Dhandhipanda was so firm on his side.

“Oh boy! What have I pulled myself into? Fine, I agree. I agree. I will grant Moksha to both you and your drum that I’m struck in. Now let me out!” – Krishna bellowed from inside.

Dhadhipanda was so relieved to hear those words and he jumped from the top of the drum out of happiness. Krishna came outside and he brought the Pushpaga Vimanam from heaven and made sure Dhadhipanda and his drum attained Moksha.

No one can say, upon whom the Lord's grace would fall. In the previous varththai, one saw that His grace fell on Prahlada who told that He was everywhere; in this varththai, it is seen that He gave moksha to Dhadhipanda who lied that He was not there (near him).

 இங்கும் உண்டு என்றேனோ ப்ரஹ்லாதனைப் போலே

கொடிய அரக்கனான இரண்யகசிபுக்கும் (இரணியன்) கயாதுக்கும் மகனாகப் பிறந்த பிரகலாதன், தெய்வத்தன்மை வாய்ந்த மிகச் சிறந்த விஷ்ணு பக்தன். ஹிரண்யகசிபு தவத்தில் அமர்ந்த பொழுது, அவன் மனைவியான கயாது கர்ப்பம் தரித்தாள். இரணியன் இல்லாத காரணத்தால், தேவர்கள் அவனது நாட்டை அழிக்க வந்த பொழுது, நாரத மாமுனி கயாதுவை தேவேந்தரனிடம் இருந்து காப்பாற்றி, அவரை தனது ஆஷ்ரமத்தில் வைத்து கவனித்து வந்தார். அப்பொழுது, அனுதினமும் நாரத மாமுனி, ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் (விஷ்ணு) தான் ஈரேழு உலகத்திற்கும் கடவுள் என்று போதித்தார்.  பின்னாளில் இரணியன் வரங்கள் பெற்று நாடு திரும்ப, அரண்மனை சென்ற கயாதுவுக்கு பிரஹலாதன் பிறந்து, அக்குழந்தை சிறுவயது முதலே சிறந்த ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனின் பக்தனாக வளர்ந்து வந்தது.

இரணியகசிபு, பிரம்மாவிடம் இருந்து தான் பெற்ற வரத்தால் ஈரேழு உலகத்திலும் ஆட்சி புரிந்து வந்தான். தான்தான் கடவுள் என்றும், அனைவரும் தன்னைத்தான் வணங்க வேண்டும் என்றும் அனைவரையும் கட்டாயப்படுத்தி வந்தான். குருகுலத்தில் குரு அனைத்து குழந்தைகளுக்கும் “இரணியகசிபு தான் முழுமுதற் கடவுள்”, என்று கற்றுக்கொடுக்க, பிரஹலாதனோ, “ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனே முழுமுதற் கடவுள்” என்றான். இச்செய்தியறிந்த இரணியன், விஷ்ணு உண்மையான கடவுள் அல்லர், அவர் நம் குல விரோதி, உன் சித்தப்பாவைக் கொன்றவன் என்று நயமாகவும் மிரட்டியும் சித்திரவதைப் படுத்திப் பார்த்தும் அவனால் பிரகலாதன் மனதை மாற்ற முடியவில்லை. துன்பப்பட்டாலும் விஷ்ணுதான் மூல முதற்கடவுள் என்ற தனது எண்ணத்திலிருந்து பிரகலாதன் பிறழாது உறுதியாக நின்றான். 

பிரகலாதனை மாற்ற பலவிதங்களில் துன்புறுத்தினான். ஆனால், எதையுமே கண்டுகொள்ளாத பிரஹலாதன் “நாராயணா நாராயணா” என்றபடி இருந்ததால், ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் அவனைக் காப்பாற்ற,  இரணியனின் முயற்சிகள் எல்லாம் தோல்வியில் முடிந்தன. ஆத்திரமடைந்த இரணியன் தன் மகன் என்றும் பாராமல் பிரகலாதனைக் கொலை செய்ய ஆணையிட்டான். ஆனால் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் தோல்வியே அடைந்தான். யானையின் காலால் இடரச் செய்தல், கொடிய விஷம் கொண்ட பாம்புகளோடு அடைத்து வைத்தல், விஷமருந்தச் செய்தல், தீக்குள் இறங்கச் செய்தல் போன்ற அவனது கொடுமுயற்சிகளில் இருந்தும் பிரகலாதன், தான் கொண்ட அசைக்க முடியாத விஷ்ணு பக்தியினால் விஷ்ணுவின் உதவியால் காப்பாற்றப்பட்டான். 

பிரகலாதனைக் கொல்லத் தான் எடுத்த முயற்சிகளில் எல்லாம் தோற்றுப்போன இரணியன் தானே நேராகப் பிரகலாதனைக் கொல்லப் போன போதும் பிரகலாதன் பயமின்றி தான் வணங்கும் கடவுள் தன்னைக் காப்பார் என்றான். அது கேட்டு ஆத்திரத்தில் அறிவிழந்த இரணியன், விஷ்ணுவைத் தானே கொல்லப் போவதாகக் கூறி, ‘உன் கடவுளைக் காட்டு’, என பிரகலாதனிடம் கேட்க, பிரகலாதனோ, “ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணர் எங்கும் இருப்பார் எதிலும் இருப்பார், ஏன் தூணிலும் இருப்பார் எந்தத் துரும்பிலும் இருப்பார்” என்று கூறினான்.

இரணியன் ஒரு தூணைக் காட்டி, இந்த தூணில் உள்ளாரா என்று கேட்க, பிரகலாதனோ, “தூணிலும் இருப்பார், தூணின் தூசியிலும் இருப்பார், தந்தையே” என்று கூறினான். இரணியன் அந்தத் தூணை உடைக்க, ஸ்ரீமன் நராயணர், நரசிம்ம அவதாரம் (மனிதன் பாதி சிங்கம் பாதி) பூண்டு தூணில் இருந்து வெளிவந்து இரணியன் பெற்ற வரங்கள் பொய்க்காத வகையில் அவனை வதம் செய்து பிரகலாதனைக் காத்தருளினார்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “பிரகலாதனைப் போல், மாறுபாடில்லா நம்பிக்கையுடன், ‘ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் எங்கும் உள்ளார், இங்கும் உள்ளார்’, என்று கூறினேனா?”, என்று வினவுகிறார்.

Hiranyakashipu's younger brother, Hiranyaksha was slain by Lord Vishnu when he took the Varaha Avatar. Angered by this, Hiranyakashipu performed great penance towards Brahma and when Brahma appeared in front of him, he asked for immortality which was refused by Lord Brahma, saying, everything once born has to eventually die.

Hiranyakashipu then requested, “Oh Lord, I should not meet death from any of the living entities created by you. Grant me that I shall not die within any residence or outside any residence, during the daytime or at night, nor on the ground or in the sky. Grant me that my death not be brought by any being other than those created by you, nor by any weapon, nor by any human being or animal. Grant me, further, that I shall not be killed by any demigod or demon. Grant me the benediction that I may have no rival. Give me sole lordship over all the living entities and presiding deities, and give me all the glories obtained by that position. Furthermore, give me all the mystic powers attained by long austerities and the practice of yoga, for these cannot be lost at any time.”

With Brahma granting the boons to Hiranyakashipu, he became mighty and crueler than ever that he ruled both the earth and Indraloka for 107,280,000 years. In consequence of the boons, he put forth the command that no one should worship Sriman Narayana and instead everyone should worship him. Legends say that he was able to shake the very Himalayas down to their roots and once when King Ravana tried to lift Hiranyakashipu's earrings, he was unable to do so because they were very heavy.

When Hiranyakashipu was doing penance, Sage Naradha took care of Hiranyakashipu’s wife Kayadhu, who was pregnant at that time. Sage Naradha recited transcendental instructions and mantras and stories of Lord Vishnu to the unborn child in the womb and as a result, when the kid was born, he became an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu. While the teachers of Hiranyakashipu’s Kingdom taught all children that Hiranyakashipu was the supreme power, Prahlada prayed only to Narayana and also taught the same to the children in his gurukula.

Hiranyakashipu eventually becomes so angry and upset at his son's devotion to Vishnu (whom he sees as his mortal enemy) and he tried to kill his son in malicious ways such as using weapons, having poisonous snakes bite him, crushing him with elephants, throwing him from a mountain-top, throwing him in fire, into the ocean, etc. Prahlada's mind was always set on Sriman Narayana and so each time Hiranyakashipu attempts to kill the boy, Prahlada was protected by Vishnu's mystical power.

In spite of everything that Hiranyakashipu did to him, Prahlada showed no anger towards him. Instead, he advised Hiranyakashipu, "Vishnu is the Supreme Being who is the controller of everyone and omnipresent. Just like he is inside me, so too he is inside you. He is present everywhere."

Fumed, Hiranyakashipu points at a pillar near by and asked Prahlada -“O most unfortunate Prahlada, you have always described him as a supreme being other than me, who is the controller of everyone and who is all-pervading. If He is everywhere, then why is He not present before me in this pillar?"

Prahlada answered, “He was, He is and He will be.”

Hiranyakashipu wrecked that pillar with all his anger and strength and Sriman Narayana appears as Narasimha and slays Hiranyakashipu, standing by the words of Lord Brahma’s boons.

Thirukkolur Ammal is asking "Did I, with great certainty said that he is everywhere, “including here (in this pillar)”, like Prahlada?"
