தோள் காட்டி வந்தேனோ பட்டரைப் போலே

அந்நாட்களில், ஸ்ரீரங்கத்து எம்பெருமான் பல்லக்கில் வீதி உலா வரும்பொழுது, முன்னால் சவுக்கால் விதியை அடித்து சுத்தப் படுத்திக் கொண்டே இருவர் வருவர். அவர்களின் செயலால், முன் நிற்கும் கூட்டமும் விலகும். சில சமயங்களில், எதிர்பாராமல், அவ்வடி பக்தர்கள் மேலும் படக்கூடும்.

ஒருமுறை, அவ்வாறு அடிக்கும் பொழுது, அது பராசர பட்டரின் தோள்பட்டையில் அடியாக விழ, பட்டரின் சீடர்கள் சவுக்கு வைத்திருப்பவரை கடிந்து கொண்டனர். தெரியாமல் அடித்து விட்டதாக அடித்தவன் பட்டரிடம் மன்னிப்புக் கேட்க, பட்டரோ, “பரவாயில்லை. எம்பெருமானுக்கான கைங்கரியத்தின் போது  விழுந்த அடி. மற்றொரு தோளிலும் விழவில்லையே என்றே நான் வருந்துகிறேன்.”, என வருந்திக் கூறினாராம்.  பொறுமையும் மன்னிக்கும் குணமும் ஸ்ரீ வைஷ்ணவனின் குணமாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “பட்டர்பிரானைப் போல் ஸ்ரீ வைஷ்ணவ குணத்துடன் வாழ்ந்தேனா?”, என வினவுகிறார்.

In olden days, when Namperumal of Sri Rangam temple is on a procession in the streets, in order to clear the crowd, there will be some people in front who will hit the ground with long belts so that the crowd will clear the path and leave way for Namperumal. Accidentally, the belts might, at times, hit the devotees too.

On one such occasion, when Namperumal was amidst the crowd, the belt’s edge hit Parasara Bhattar on his shoulder. Bhattar's disciples got angry and used harsh words against the person who was using the belt. Calming his disciples, Bhattar said-"They were only doing their duty. There is no mistake in that. Besides, what's wrong in being hit by those in the service of the Lord?"

He then told the person who hit him, "What you did was correct. When I got hit on one shoulder, I should have offered my other shoulder also to you. That was my mistake and I feel bad about it. Now I am showing you my other shoulder".

The person who used the leather belt apologized to Bhattar. It is the quality of a Srivaishnava to show patience and mercy to anyone who makes mistake.

வாக்கினால் வென்றேனோ பட்டரைப் போலே

இராமானுசரின் முதன்மை சீடரான கூரத்தாழ்வாரின் மகனாகப் பிறந்தவர் பராசர பட்டர்.

நான்கு வயது சிறுவனாக இருக்கும் பொழுது, ஒரு நாள், காவிரிக்கரையில் விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருந்த பராசரன், ஸர்வக்ஞ பட்டர் என்ற முதிர்ந்த வைணவப் பெரியவரொருவர் பல்லக்கில் ஊர்வலமாகப் போய்க் கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டார். உடன் வந்த அவரின் சீடர்கள், அவருடைய புகழைப் பாடி வந்தார்கள்.
இதையெல்லாம் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த பராசர பட்டர், ராமானுஜரும், கூரத்தாழ்வாரும், முதலியாண்டாரும், எம்பாரும் வசிக்கும் ஊரில், இப்படி தற்புகழ்ச்சியுடன் ஒருவர் வருவதை விரும்பவில்லை.

கையில் ஒரு பிடி மணலை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, பல்லக்கினை நிறுத்தி, சர்வக்ஞரிடம், “நீங்கள் திறமைசாலி எனில், என் கையில் உள்ள மண் எவ்வளவு எனக் கூற முடியுமா?” என்றார்.
“மண் கோடிக்கணக்கில் இருக்கும். எவ்வளவு மணல் உள்ளது என்பதை எப்படி சொல்ல முடியும்?”, என்று திகைத்த ஸர்வக்ஞ பட்டர் வினவ, சற்றும் தாமதிக்காத பராசர பட்டர், “கைப்பிடி மண்” என்று தன் கேள்விக்கான பதிலைக் கூறினார்.

சிறுவனின் திறமையைக் கண்டு  வியந்த சர்வக்ஞர், அந்தக் குழந்தையை, “யார் நீ?” என வினவ, பராசர பட்டர், தான் கூரத்தாழ்வாரின் மகன் எனக் கூறினார். குழந்தையை தன் பல்லக்கில் ஏற்றி வந்து கூரத்தாழ்வார் வீட்டில் கொண்டு வந்து விட்டார், ஸர்வக்ஞ பட்டர்.

பின்னாளில், பராசர பட்டர் வளர்ந்ததும், ஸ்ரீராமானுஜரால் தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு, அவர் காலத்திலேயே வைணவ ஆச்சாரியராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டார். ராமானுஜரின் அந்திம காலத்தில் ராமானுஜர், பராசரரை அழைத்து, திருநாராயணபுரம் சென்று, அங்கு வேதாந்தி என்பவரை வாதத்தில் வென்று வருமாறுக் கூறினார். பட்டரும் திருநாராயணபுரம் சென்று, வேதாந்தியை வாதத்திறமையால் வென்று அவரை ஸ்ரீரங்கம் அழைத்து வந்தார். அவருக்கு நன்ஜீயர் எனப் பெயரிட்டு, வைஷ்ணவ சம்பிரதாயத்தை கடைபிடிக்கவும் வைத்தார்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “பட்டரைப் போல் தனது வாதத் திறமையால் பிறரை வென்று, ஸ்ரீ வைஷ்ணவ சம்பிரதாயத்தை நிலைநாட்டினேனா?”, என்று வினவுகிறார்.

Parasara Bhattar was the son of Koorathazhwan. Once, in his childhood days, while he was playing in the banks of river Cauvery with his friends, he saw a procession in which Sarvagna Bhattar was being carried in a palanquin by his disciples. The disciples were praising Sarvagna Battar out aloud as they went along. On hearing the praises by the disciples, Parasara Bhattar was upset that in a town where notable scholars like Ramanuja, Koorathazhwan, Mudhaliyandan and Embar are residing, such a procession was taking place. So he decided to test Sarvagna Battar.

He went to the procession and stopped it. Seeing Parasara Bhattar, Sarvagna Bhattar came out of his palanquin. Parasara Bhattar, holding some sand from the river in his hand, challenged Sarvagna Bhattar to give him a count of the sand. Stunned, Sarvagna Bhattar replied, “How can you count sand?”

Parasara Bhattar replied instantly, "I can! This is a fistful of sand. You cannot even say this much and yet you go around with people crying out your praises."

Sarvagna Bhattar was amazed by this child's prowess. He then enquired about him and found out that he was the son of Koorathazhwan. He exclaimed, "Will the off-spring of that which flies just crawl?", and carried Parasara Bhattar in his palanquin to his home.

Thirukkolur Ammal asks, "Did I win over opponents with my oratory skills like Parasara Bhattar?"
