 அவன் போனான் என்றேனோ மாருதியாண்டான் போலே

கிரிமி கண்ட சோழன் என ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவர்களால் அழைக்கப்பட்ட சோழ மன்னனால் ஏற்பட்ட பிரச்சனைகளால்,  ராமானுஜர், ஸ்ரீரங்கத்திலிருந்து கர்நாடகாவில் இருந்த திருநாராயணபுரத்திற்கு சென்று சில ஆண்டுகள் தங்கினார். மனம், அனுதினமும் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்திற்கு திரும்பும் நாளையே எண்ணிக்கொண்டிருந்தபடியால், தனது சீடர்களை அனுப்பி, ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்தின் நிலவரம் குறித்தும், கூரத்தாழ்வார் மற்றும் பெரிய நம்பிகளின் நலம் பற்றியும் அறிந்து வரும் வண்ணம் இருந்தார். அவர்களும், ஸ்ரீரங்கம் சென்று அங்கு கூரத்தாழ்வாரையும், பெரிய நம்பிகளையும் பார்த்து, ராமனுஜர் சொல்ல விரும்பிய செய்திகளை அவர்களிடம் உரைத்துவிட்டு, அவர்களிடம் இருந்து செய்திகளை அறிந்து வந்து ராமானுஜரிடம் கூறுவார்கள்.   

ஒரு முறை, ராமானுஜர், தனது சீடரான மாருதியாண்டான் என்பவரை அழைத்து, ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் சென்று வருமாறு கூறினார். மாருதியாண்டான் திருவரங்கம் வந்தார். பெரிய நம்பிகள் பரமபதம் அடைந்துவிட்டார் என்பதையும், சோழ மன்னனுடன் ஏற்ப்பட்ட வாக்குவாதத்தின் விளைவாக கூரத்தாழ்வான் கண்ணிழந்து திருமாலிருஞ்சோலையில் இருப்பதையும் அறிந்தார்.  அனைத்து கொடுமைகளுக்கும் காரணமான சோழ மன்னன், கண்டமாலை என்ற நோயினால் இறந்து போனதையும் அறிந்தார். இனி ராமானுஜர் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் திரும்பலாம் என்பதில் ஆனந்தம் கொண்ட மாருதியாண்டான், அச்செய்திகளை ராமானுஜருக்குத் தெரிவிக்க உடனே திருநாராயணபுரம் புறப்பட்டார். ராமானுஜரிடம் செய்திகளைக் கூறினார்.

ராமானுஜரைக் கண்டதும் "அவன் போனான்" (சோழமன்னன் இறந்தான்) என்பதைக் கூறினார். ராமானுஜர் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் திரும்பும் நேரம் வந்ததை அறிந்து மனம் மகிழ்ந்தார். பின்னர், பெரிய நம்பிகள், கூரத்தாழ்வார் பற்றிக் கேள்விப்பட்டு மனம் வருந்தினார். சற்றும் தாமதிக்காமல், தனது சீடர்களுடன் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் புறப்பட்டார். ராமானுஜரின் வருகை அறிந்த கூரத்தாழ்வானும் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் வந்தடைந்தார். ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்தில் மீண்டும் சேவையில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “மாருதியாண்டான் போல், ராமானுஜரின் மனம் ஆனந்தம் கொள்ளும் வண்ணம் ஏதும் கூறினேனா?”, என்று வினவுகிறார்..

avan pOnAn enREnO mAruthiyANdAn pOlE

As a result of the troubles from the Chozha king, Sri Ramanuja moved from Sri Rangam and went to Thirunarayanapuram and lived there many years, waiting for his day to return to Sri Rangam. The Chozha king is called "avyapadeshya" by Srivaishnava acharyas - meaning, one who is not worthy of being called by his name. He later died due to a wound in his neck and so was also referred to as "kirumi kaNdan".

Sri Ramanuja sends his disciples, every year to Sri Rangam, to know about the situation there, to make sure whether he can return to Sri Rangam. Every time, his disciples will return with bad news. One such time, Sri Ramanuja called his disciples, Maruthiyandan and Ammangi Ammal, and asked them to visit Sri Rangam and inform about Sri Ramanuja’s wellness to Kooraththazhvan and Periya Nambigal and also requested them to bring back news about the temple, Kooraththazhvan, Periya Nambigal and others. Maruthiyandan and Ammangi Ammal went to Sri Rangam and informed about Sri Ramanuja’s wellness to those there. They also heard about Periya Nambigal attaining the Lord's lotus feet and Koorathazhvan losing his eyes in an argument with the Chozha King and became very sad. At that time, they also heard about the king's death. On hearing about the King’s death, Maruthiyandan and Ammangi Ammal returned to Thirunarayanapuram immediately.

Returning to Sri Ramanuja, Maruthiyandan said "avan pOnAn", meaning that the Chozha king is dead. Hearing that, Sri Ramanuja became happy for the fact that now he can finally go back to Sri Rangam. He embraced Maruthiyandan. On hearing about Kooraththazhvan and Periya Nambigal, Sri Ramanuja was dejected and gathering all his strength, he consoled himself and returned to Sri Rangam immediately.

Thirukkolur Ammal is asking, "Did I walk a long distance and give good news to acharya like Maruthiyandan?"
