 நில் என்று பெற்றேனோ இடையாற்றூர் நம்பியைப் போலே 

இடையாற்றூர் நம்பி, ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் அருகில் உள்ள இடையாற்றூக்குடி என்னும் ஊரில் வசித்து வந்த தீவிர நம்பெருமாள் பக்தர். ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்தில் ஆண்டிற்கு நான்கு முறை பிரம்மோற்சவம் நடக்கும். ஆண்டு முழுவதும் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்தில் நம்பெருமாளுக்கு புறப்பாடும் உற்சவமும் நடக்கும் என்றாலும், பிரம்மோற்சவத்தின் போது ஸ்ரீ ரங்கமே அழகு கோலம் கொண்டிருக்க, நம்பெருமாள் அழகில் மயங்க அனைவரும் கூடுவர். இடையாற்றூர் நம்பியும் இதற்கு விதிவிலக்கல்ல. பிரம்மோற்சவத்தின் போது, இடையாற்றூர் நம்பி முதல் நாளே ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் வந்துவிடுவார்.

கொடியேற்றம் முதல் அனைத்து புறப்பாடுகளிலும் கலந்து கொண்டு, ஒன்று விடாமல் சேவிப்பார். பிரம்மோற்சவம் முடிந்த பின், வீடு திரும்பினாலும், அனுதினமும் நம்பெருமாளின் அழகை எண்ணியபடியும், அடுத்த பிரம்மோற்சவம்  பற்றிய ஏக்கத்துடனும் நாட்களைக் கடத்துவார். ஒரு பிரம்மோற்சவம் விடாது, ஆண்டுதோறும் நான்கு பிரம்மோற்சவத்தின் போதும் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் சென்று நம்பெருமாளை சேவித்து வருவார்.

ஆண்டுகள் சென்றன. முதுமை ஆட்கொண்ட காரணத்தால், ஒரு முறை இடையாற்றூர் நம்பியால் பிரம்மோற்சவத்தின் முதல் நாள் அன்று ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் செல்ல முடியவில்லை. முதுமையினால் அவதி கொண்டாலும், ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் புறப்பட்டு, ஆறாம் நாளே கோவிலினை அடைந்தார். இந்நிலையில், முதல் நாள் முதல் இடையாற்றூர் நம்பியைக் காணாது நம்பெருமாள் தவித்துப் போனார். ஆறாம் நாள், தூணைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டு இடையாற்றூர் நம்பி நிற்பதைக் கண்டு பேரானந்தம் கொண்ட நம்பெருமாள், அவரிடம், “உன் வரவால் மனமகிழ்ந்தேன். என்ன வேண்டும், கேள்.”, என்றார்.

இடையாற்றூர் நம்பி, “நம்பெருமாளே! எம்பெருமானே! உன் தயவினால், இத்தனை ஆண்டுகள் உன் அழகை சேவிக்கும் பாக்கியம் கொண்டேன். முதுமை காரணமாக இவ்வுடல் பயணத்திற்கு ஒத்துழைக்கவில்லை. இதுவே கடைசியோ என்று மனம் பதறுகிறது.”, என்றார், இருகரம் கூப்பி.

நம்பெருமாள், உடனே, “என்றால், இனி, இங்கேயே நில்லும். அனுதினமும் எம்மை சேவித்துக்கொண்டு இரும்.”, என்று கூறி செல்ல, நம்பெருமாள் உற்சவம் முடியும் வேளை, இடையாற்றூர் நம்பியின் உடல் பிரிந்து உயிர் செல்ல, மோக்க்ஷம் அடைந்தார்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “இடையாற்றூர் நம்பி போல் அனுதினமும் நம்பெருமாளை எண்ணினேனோ, இல்லை, இடையாற்றூர் நம்பி போல், நம்பெருமாளால், “இங்கேயே எம்முடன் நில்”, என்று அன்புடன் தான் கூறப்பெற்றேனோ”, என்று வினவுகிறார்.

Though at Sri Rangam Temple the utsavams will take place throughout the year, of all the festivals, the Lord enjoys four Brahmotsavam each year. It is still the prime festival for the Lord.

Ages back, there lived an ardent devotee named Idaiyarrur Nambi in Idaiyatrukudi. He would attend every Brahmotsavam from the first day and will stay there and enjoy the pleasures of the Lord till the last day of the festival. As soon as he returned home, he would be thinking of nothing but only the festival and the Lord. All he will do is, think about the Lord and wait for the next Brahmotsavam. This repeated every year.

Years passed by and due to old age, he lost his strength. One time, when he started for the Brahmotsavam, he was unable to reach Sri Rangam on the first day. Still, he tried all his best and gathered strength to reach Sri Rangam and see the lord, at any cost. Meanwhile, seeing that His devotee is not there on day one, Namperumal (the Lord of Sri Rangam) wondered "Idaiyatru Nambi has not made it to the first day of our utsavam".

Idayatru Nambi was able to be there and see the Lord only on the sixth day. Seeing him on the sixth day, Namperumal became very happy and told him "I would like to give you a boon. Ask me whatever you need." Nambi spoke gently, "Through the body You gave me, I worshipped for these many years. Now that old age has come, this body is no longer capable of travel.” Namperumal replied "If that’s so, from now on, stay here itself." (Just like he told Sri Ramanuja to stay at Srirangam - "atraiva srIrange sukhamAsva").

As Namperumal reached the next street in procession, Nambi left this world and reached His divine abode.

Thirukkolur Ammal is asking "Did I worship the Lord and think about nothing else like Idaiyarrur Nambi did and was told by Namperumal to stay at His place?"
