9. மூன்றெழுத்துச் சொன்னேனோ க்ஷத்ரபந்துவைப் போலே

    விஷ்வரதா என்னும் மன்னனுக்கு க்ஷத்ரபந்து என்னும் மகன் இருந்தான். பிறரைக் கேலி செய்வதும், மற்றவர்களுக்கு இடைஞ்சல் செய்வதுமே அவனது பிறவி குணமாய் இருந்து வந்தது. இளவரசன் வளர வளர, அவனது சேட்டைகளும் வளர்ந்து வந்தன. மகன் மீது கொண்ட அன்பால், மன்னன் இளவரசனை கண்டிக்காமல் விட, க்ஷத்ரபந்துவின் செயல்களால் மக்கள் மிகவும் அவதியுற்றனர். இளவரசனது செயல்களைப் பொறுக்க முடியாமல், ஒரு நாள் மக்களே அவனை நாட்டை விட்டு துரத்தினர். உயிருக்கு பயந்து காட்டிற்குள் ஓடிய க்ஷத்ரபந்து, அங்கு சென்றும் தன் சேட்டைகளை நிறுத்திக் கொள்ளவில்லை. காட்டில் வசிக்கும் மக்களிடமும், காட்டினை கடக்கும் வழிப்போக்கர்களிடமும் தன் சேட்டைகளை தொடர்ந்தான். மேலும், அங்கு வரும் முனிவர்களுக்கு தொல்லைகள் கொடுத்தும், அவர்கள் நடத்தும் யாகத்தில் இடையூறுகள் செய்தும்  கானகத்தில் கவலையின்றி அலைந்துத் திரிந்து கொண்டிருந்தான். மக்களுக்கு தொந்தரவு செய்தாலும், க்ஷத்ரபந்து யாரையும் துன்புறுத்தியதில்லை.

             ஒரு நாள், காட்டு வழியே சென்ற முனிவர் ஒருவர், குளத்தில் நீர் பருக முயன்ற போது தவறி குளத்தில் மயங்கி விழுந்தார். அவ்வழியே சென்ற க்ஷத்ரபந்து, அம்முனிவரை காப்பாற்றி, அவர் காயங்களுக்கு மருந்திட்டு அவர் நினைவு திரும்பும் வரை அவரை கவனித்துக்கொண்டான். கண் விழித்த முனிவரிடம் அவர் போக வேண்டிய சரியான வழியைக் காட்டினான். க்ஷத்ரபந்து காட்டில் தனியே வசிப்பதன் காரணத்தினை கேட்டு அறிந்து கொண்ட முனிவர், அவனது பிறவி குணம் இது என்பதை உணர்ந்து, அவனை நல்வழி படுத்த எண்ணி, "உன் ஆன்மாவின் குணம் இதுவல்ல. எனவே, அனுதினமும், நீ எக்காரியம் செய்தாலும் சரி, அதை செய்யத் தொடங்கும் முன்பும், அதை முடித்த பின்பும், "கோவிந்தா" என்னும் மந்திரத்தைக் கூறு." - என்றுக் கூறி, அவனிடம் இருந்து விடை பெற்றுக்கொண்டார்.

         க்ஷத்ரபந்துவும், அன்று முதல் முனிவர் கூறியது போல் "கோவிந்தா" எனும் நாமத்தை தொடர்ந்து கூறி வந்தான். அவன் செய்யும் சேட்டைகள் தொடர்ந்தாலும், தொடங்கும் முன்பும், முடித்த பின்பும் "கோவிந்தா" எனும் நாமத்தைக் கூறினான். இதன் பயனாக, க்ஷத்ரபந்து, தன் அடுத்த பிறவியில் நல்குடியில், ஸ்ரீமன் வாசுதேவனின் பக்தனாக பிறந்து, தவங்கள் பல மேற்கொண்டு, இறைவனடி சேர்ந்தான்.

  

       திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், "க்ஷத்ரபந்து போல், எக்காரியம் செய்யும் முன்னும் பின்னும், நாள் முழுதும் மறவாமல் "கோவிந்தா" எனும் நாமம் கூறுமளவிற்கு நான் பக்தி கொண்டேனா?", என்று வினவுகிறார்.

9. mUnRezhuththuch sonnEnO kshathrabandhuvaip pOlE

Kshathrabandhu was the son of King Vishvaratha. His real name is not known. Kshathrabandhu means the lowest person amongst the Kshatriyas. Because of his lowly character, he was called Kshathrabandhu. Kshathrabandhu, being a prince of a Kingdom, never treated people with care or responsibility. Right from his childhood, he was so mischievous, disobedient and at times, rebellious. The King and the Queen, out of their love for their son, failed to teach him good manners or correct him when he does something mischievous. Years passed on but the prince’s naughtiness only increased. Unable to tolerate his behaviour, the people of the kingdom chased him into the forest. Even in the forest he continued in torturing others.

One time, a Rishi came into the forest where Kshathrabandhu was staying. Due to the extreme heat, he became very thirsty. Seeing a pond he went there to drink the water, slipped and fell into the pond. When Kshathrabandhu saw this, though he laughed at him at first, somehow he felt pity on the Rishi and pulled him out of the pond. He took care of the Rishi until he regained his conscious and also gave him fruits to eat.

The Rishi, pleased on the care of Kshathrabandhu, asked him about his story and why he was living alone in a forest. Kshathrabandhu told him his entire history without hiding anything. Wishing to correct him, the Rishi gave him some very good advice.

Kshathrabandhu replied "O Rishi! My bad nature was born with me and will not leave me. There is no point trying to make me a better person". The Rishi then taught him the Lord's divine name “Govinda” which is made of three aksharas (in Sanskrit). He then told Kshathrabandhu to chant the name “Govinda”, before starting and after finishing his work, be it anything, even if it is bad or mischievous.

From that day onward, Kshathrabandhu started repeating the Lord's name all the time. Because of that, after his death, he was reborn as a Brahmin and became an ardent devotee of the Lord. After that, he attained the Lord's feet. His story has been sung by Thondaradippodi Azhvar in his Thirumaalai.

8. தந்தை எங்கே என்றேனோ துருவனைப் போலே

         உலகை படைக்க ஒப்பந்தம் போட்ட பின், படைக்கும் கடவுளான பிரம்மா முதலில் மனுவைப் படைக்கிறார். மனுவுக்கு ப்ரியவிரதன் மற்றும் உத்தானபாதன் என இரண்டு புதல்வர்கள் பிறக்கிறார்கள். உத்தானபாதனுக்கு சுநீதி, சுருசி என்று இரு மனைவியர். சுநீதிக்கு துருவன் என்னும் மகனும் சுருசிக்கு உத்தமன் என்னும் மகனும் பிறந்தனர். உத்தானபாதன், சுருசியிடமும் உத்தமனிடமும் மட்டுமே அன்புடன் பழகினான். துருவனை ஒருநாளும் கையில் எடுத்துக் கொஞ்சியதில்லை. அணைத்துக்கொண்டதுமில்லை. துருவாவைக் கண்டுகொள்ளாமல், உத்தமாவிடமே அன்பாய் இருந்தார்.

       ஒருநாள், தன் தம்பி உத்தமன் தனது தந்தையின் மடியில் கொஞ்சி விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருப்பதை துருவன் காண்கிறான். அவனுக்கும் தந்தையின் மடியில் அமர்ந்துகொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று ஆசை உண்டானது. பாசத்துடனும் ஆசையுடனும் தன் தந்தையை நோக்கி செல்கிறான். அதைக் கண்ட சுருசி, துருவனை தடுத்து, "இனியும் மன்னன் அருகில் செல்லாதே! அவர் உத்தமனுக்கு மட்டுமே தந்தை!" என்று கூறி தள்ளிவிடுகிறாள். இதை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த உத்தானபாதனும் ஒன்றும் சொல்லவில்லை.

        மனமுடைந்த துருவன், கண்களில் கண்ணிர் வழியத் தன் தாயிடம் சென்று நடந்தவற்றைக் கூறினான். தன் மகனுக்கு ஆறுதல் கூறிய சுனிதி, துருவனிடம் - "மகனே, மற்றவர்களைக் குறை சொல்லிப் பயன் இல்லை. பொறாமை கொள்ளாதே. எல்லோர்க்கும் தந்தையாக விளங்கும் வாசுதேவனிடம் உன்னை ஒப்படைத்துவிட்டால் இவ்வுலகில் நீ சந்தோஷமாக வாழலாம். அவன் ஒருவனே நம் எல்லோருக்கும் தந்தை." - என்றாள்.

        தாயின் அறிவுரைகளை கேட்ட துருவன், காட்டில் சென்று வாசுதேவனை நினைத்து தவமிருந்தான். அங்கு வந்த நாரதர், துருவனின் மனஉறுதியை அறிய எண்ணி, "துருவா! பல ஜென்மங்கள் முயன்றும் முனிவர்களும் யோகிகளும் அவனை அறிய முடியாதவர்களாக இருக்கிறார்கள். அப்படிப்பட்ட உயரிய தெய்வத்தை நீ அறிய முயல்வது வீண். பசி உறக்கம் இல்லாமல் தவமிருப்பது உன் போன்ற சிறுவனுக்கு இயலாத காரியம். நீயோ சிறு பாலகன். பிடிவாதம் செய்யாமல் நீ அரண்மனைக்கு திரும்பிப் போ!", என்றார்.

       "தேவ ரிஷியே! மகாவிஷ்ணுவைக் காண்பது ஒன்றுதான் இனி என் வாழ்வின் குறிக்கோள். அவன் ஒருவனே என் தந்தை இனி. அவரைக் காண வேண்டும். அதை நிறைவேறும் வழியைக் காட்டி அருளுங்கள்." - என்ற துருவனின் பண்பையும் மனவலிமையையும் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்த நாரதர், துருவனுக்கு, “ஓம் நமோ பகவதே வாசுதேவாய” என்னும் வாசுதேவ மந்திரத்தை உபதேசித்தார். அம்மந்திரத்தை மனதில் நிறுத்தி, நாரதர் கூறியது போல் யமுனை ஆற்றங்கரையில் உள்ள மதுவனம் சென்று, யமுனையில் காலை, மதியம், மாலை ஆகிய மூன்று நேரங்களிலும் குளித்து பரிசுத்தமான மனதுடன் இறைவனை மனதில் நிறுத்தி தியானம் செய்தான். அந்த ஜந்து வயது பாலகன் துருவனின் பக்தியில் நெகிழ்ந்த வாசுதேவன், துருவன் முன் தோன்றி நான்கு வேதங்களையும், ஆகம மந்திரங்களைப் பற்றிய ஞானத்தையும் வழங்கி, உயர்ந்த இடமான வைகுண்டத்தில் இடமளித்தார்.

            திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், "ஸ்ரீமன் வாசுதேவனிடம் துருவன் கொண்ட அளவில்லா நம்பிக்கை என்னிடம் உள்ளதா?", என்று வினவுகிறார்.

8. Thandhai engE enREnO dhuruvanaip polaE

Manu was born out of Brahma's body as the first human soul on earth when the God’s decided to have humans on the earth. He married Satharupai and had two sons called Priyamaratha and Uththanapadha. Uththanapadha became king and married Suneethi and Suruchi. They gave birth to two sons. Suneethi's son was called Dhruva and Suruchi's son was called Uththama.

Uththanapadha was very fond of Suruchi and ignored Suneethi completely. Same way he treated the sons too! He showered all his love and care only to Uththama and ignored Dhruva.  One day, Uththanapadha was playing with Uththama placed in his lap. Seeing his father playing with his brother, Dhruva tried to approach his father.  Suruchi, who had plans in her mind to make her son as the next king, stopped Dhruva from reaching the king and using harsh words, she chased him away.

Feeling both sad and angry, Dhruva went back to his mother and cried to her, explaining what happened. Suneethi then consoled him and told him "Pray to the father of everyone, Lord Vasudeva. You will live a great life if you surrender to him for he showers his love on everyone equally and to him, every soul is the same!”

Dhruva, the 5 year old kid, decided to look for Lord Vasudeva and left the palace. While he was leaving, Sage Narada appeared in front of him, with an intention to know about the heart of the kid. Looking at the kid, he said – “ Dhruva, many sages and saints have failed in knowing and seeing the Lord, even after hundred years of meditation. You have to live only by breathing air. For a kid like you, it will be tough to live without food, water and sleep. Kindly get back to the palace and I will speak with your father on behalf of you.”

Hearing the words of Sage Naradha, Dhruva replied – “O Sage Naradha! From now on, to me, only Lord Vasudeva is my father. All I want to do with the given life is to find a way to see him. Kindly help me so that I too can get the divine vision of seeing him.”

Pleased on hearing the words of the kid, Sage Narada gave him the knowledge about the Vasudeva Mantra (Dvadasakshari) and asked him to meditate in Madhuvana, a forest on the banks of River Yamuna. After getting the blessings of Sage Narada, Dhruva left for Madhuvana and started meditating on Lord Vasudeva. Pleased on the deep penance of the kid, Sriman Narayana (Lord Vasudeva) appeared before him. He gave Dhruva the divine knowledge and also a place amongst the stars.
