ஆரியனைப் பிரிந்தோனோ தெய்வவாரியாண்டானைப் போலே

‘‘அனந்தபுரம் புகுதும் இன்றே’’ என்று அரையர் சேவையில் பாடியதைக் கேட்ட ஆளவந்தார், தம் மடத்தின் பொறுப்புகள் அனைத்தையும் தெய்வவாரியாண்டான் என்ற சீடரிடம் விட்டுவிட்டு, அடுத்த நாளே திருவனந்தபுரம் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

குருபக்தி அதிகம் கொண்ட  தெய்வவாரியாண்டானால் குருவை பிரிந்து இருக்கவும் மனமில்லை, குருவின் வார்த்தைகளை பின்பற்றாமலும் இருக்க முடியவில்லை. குருவின் வார்த்தைக்கு மதிப்பு கொடுத்து, மடத்தின் நிர்வாகத்தை கவனித்துக் கொண்டாலும், குருவை பிரிந்து இருப்பது அவரை வாட்டியது. அதன் விளைவாக, சில நாட்களில், உடல் நலம் குன்றி படுக்கையில் வீழ்ந்தார். தெய்வவாரியாண்டானை பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர், குருவின் பிரிவு தாங்க முடியாமல் மனதளவில் வருந்திக்கொண்டதால், உடல் நிலை சுகமில்லாமல் போனது என்றும், ஆச்சார்யரைக் காணாவிடில், இன்னும் மோசமடையும் என்றும் கூறினார்.

மருந்துகளால் தெய்வவாரியாண்டானை காப்பாற்ற முடியாது என்பதை உணர்ந்த  பிற சீடர்கள், அவரை திருவனந்தபுரத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்ல தீர்மானித்தனர். அவரை பல்லக்கில் ஏற்றினர். ஆசானைக் காணப்போகிறோம் என்கிற எண்ணமே தெய்வவாரியாண்டானின் உடல் நிலையில் நல்ல மாற்றத்தைக் கொண்டு வந்தது. திருவனந்தபுரத்தை நெருங்கி பயணித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த பொழுது, ஆளவந்தார் எதிரே வந்து கொண்டிருந்ததைக் கண்டனர். திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் அனந்தபத்மநாபனை தரிசித்து அவருக்கு சேவை புரிந்து விட்டு, ஆளவந்தார் ஸ்ரீ ரங்கம் திரும்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

எதிர் நின்ற பல்லக்கைக்  கண்ட ஆளவந்தார், ஸ்ரீ ரங்கத்தில் மடத்தை பொறுப்பாக கவனிக்காமல் வாரியாண்டார் வந்ததைக் கண்டு, "வாரியாண்டாரே! பரதன், இராமபெருமான் கட்டளைக் கிணங்கி நந்திக்கிராமத்தை விட்டு அகலாமல் இருந்தார். ஆனால் நீயோ என் கட்டளைக்கு கீழ் படியாது வந்துவிட்டீரே!" என்று கடிந்து கொண்டார்.

ஆச்சார்யாரை வணங்க பல்லக்கில் இருந்து ஆனந்தமாய் இறங்கிய தெய்வவாரியாண்டார், ஆளவந்தாரின் கோபச் சொற்களைத் தாங்கவொண்ணாது மூர்ச்சித்து  விழுந்து விட்டார். உடன் சென்றவர்கள், ‘‘தங்கள் பிரிவு தாங்காது வாரியாண்டார் உடல் மெலிந்து போனார்! அவரைக் காப்பாற்றவே நாங்கள் இங்கு அழைத்து வந்தோம்.’’ என்று விளக்கினர். தன் பிரிவுதான் வாரியாண்டானின் நிலைக்குக் காரணம் என அறிந்த, ஆளவந்தார்,  வாரியாண்டானின்  ஆச்சார்ய பக்தி கண்டு மனமகிழ்ந்தார்.

வாரியாண்டாரை எழுப்பி, அவருக்கு ஆறுதல் கூறிய ஆளவந்தார், வாரியாண்டானை பத்மநாபனை தரிசித்து வரச் சொன்னார். ஆனால் வாரியாண்டாரோ, "ஆரியப் பெருமானே! (‘ஆரியன்’ என்றால் ‘உயர்ந்தவர்’) எனக்கு  அரங்கனும் நீங்களே, அனந்தபத்மநாபனும் நீங்களே! மீண்டும் உங்களைப் பிரிய இயலாது" என்றார். மனமகிழ்ந்த ஆளவந்தார், வாரியாண்டாருடனும், தனது சீடர்களுடனும்  ஸ்ரீரங்கம் திரும்பினார்.

திருக்கோளூர் அம்மாள், “தெய்வவாரியாண்டார்  போல் ஆச்சார்யரிடத்தில்  பக்தி கொண்டேனா?”, என்று வினவுகிறார்.

When Alavandar left for Thiruvananthapuram (Thirukolur Penpillai Rahasyam-64), leaving his mutt under the care of his disciple, Dheyvariyandan, he did not want to be separated from his acharya. But, in order to follow the words of his acharya, he stayed back and started taking care of the mutt. Days passed by and the separation of Dheyvariyandan from his acharya was too much for him to bear. As a result, he became weak and fell ill. The physician who attended Dheyvariyandan said to the other disciples that his mental state was affected due to the separation from his acharya which in turn was affecting his health.

Knowing that no medicine can cure him at this stage and that Dheyvariyandan would not survive if he is not going to see his acharya any sooner, the disciples decided to take him to Thiruvananthapuram. Realizing that he is going to meet his acharya, Dheyvariyandan’s health began to get better. But, as he was too weak to walk, they placed him in a palanquin and carried him to Thiruvananathapuram.

With his heart full of expectations to see his acharya and to serve him, Dheyvariyandan’s health started getting better. While they were on their way, close to Thiruvananathapuram, Alavandar, who was on his return journey to Srirangam, saw his disciples and Dheyvariyandan in a palanquin.

Alavandar, on noticing Dheyvariyandan in a palanquin rather than being in Sri Rangam and taking care of the mutt, got angry and said- "Sri Rama told Bharata to stay back at Ayodhya for 14 years. He, being supremely independent and powerful, Bharata followed His word and stayed there. Since I am neither, Andan has come here now!?"

Dheyvariyandan, who came out of the palanquin to seek blessings from his acharya, fell unconscious on the ground on listening to the harsh words of his acharya. While few disciples attended the unconscious Dheyvariyandan, other disciples who had accompanied Dheyvariyandan informed Alavandar everything about Dheyvariyandan’s sickness. On hearing the words of the disciples, Alavandar became happy.

Seeing Dheyvariyandan who has regained his conscious, Alavandar said in a soft tone, "You have lost so much weight. Go to Thiruvananthapuram and pray to the Lord and come back". Dheyvariyandan replied-"When my Thiruvananthapuram is standing in front of me (referring to Alavandar), why do I need to go to another Thiruvananthapuram?" and fell at his acharya's feet again. Alavandar appreciated Dheyvariyandan’s acharya bhakti and returned to Sri Rangam with his disciples.
